Reef ID books have released their guide to the Reef Fishes of the Coral Triangle. The book catalogs over 1400 species of fish that occur in this biodiverse region. Each species has been photographically described, and some also have images depicting color variations, age, and differences in gender.
Sony announces tough high performance external hard drives
Sony is releasing a series of ultra-tough, high-speed external SSD hard drives. They are waterproof to IP67 standards, and the high=performance SL-M series offers read/write speeds of up to 1000MB/s, while the SL-C has 540MB/s read speed and 520MB/s write speeds. Available in 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB storage capacities, they have USB-C connections.
Panasonic announces the G95 mirrorless micro four thirds camera
Panasonic has announced their G95 (G90 in some markets) mirrorless Micro Four Thirds camera. Featuring a 20.3 MP sensor with a native ISO range 200-25,600, DFD powered AF and in-body image stabilization. For video is offers 4K up to 30fps and Full HD video at up to 120fps. There are also no video recording limits and it ships with V-LogL.
Adobe adds Content Aware Fill to After Effects
Adobe has announced a series of updates to its Creative Cloud video apps ahead of the annual NAB show. Perhaps the most notable new feature is the addition of Content Aware fill to After Effects. Utilizing the Adobe Sensei AI platform, unwanted objects in the frame can be masked and replaced with suitable pixels. The tool will then track the object as it moves through the scene
Canon announces four 4K camcorders
Canon has announced four professional 4K 30p camcorders. The XA55 and XA50 have 1-inch sensors, nine-bladed apertures, and Dual-Pixel CMOS AF. The XA40 and XA45 have 1/2.84 sized sensors and eight-bladed apertures. All the new cameras have five-axis image stabilization and record to dual internal SD cards.
Inon ships Straight Viewfinder II
Inon is shipping version 2 of their Straight Viewfinder Unit. Specifically designed for full frame SLRs, it is available in a version for Inon X-2 housings or without an adaptor to allow it to be used with other housings. All available is an optional diopter for photographers suffering from long sightedness.

The Hippocampus Brief by Nicholas Samaras
Underwater photographer Nicholas Samaras shares a moving and beautifully illustrated story about the resilience of seahorses. Stratoni, a bay in the Aegean Sea was a known habitat for seahorses before it suffered from environmental collapse due to overfishing and habitat destruction. Nicholas’s story described the return of the iconic creature to this denuded habitat and the hope for the future that this provides.
