Sony fixes firmware bug in a7 Mark III update
Petapixel reports that the firmware update version 2.1 that Sony released today for the a7 III and a7R III cameras fixes the issues that were inherent with version 2.0 that was released in October. The earlier version was found to cause data loss in some specific circumstances and was removed from Sony’s update server shortly after it was released.
Season 3 of Tales by Light on Netflix
Season 3 of the Tales by Light series will come to streaming service Netflix on Friday 21 December. Episode 2 is entitled “Paradise in Peril” and features filmmaker and conservationist Shawn Heinrichs talking about the mission to protect the amazing biodiverse environment in Misool, Indonesia.
Chinchorro Crocodile Encounters by Don Silcock
Don Silcock presents a photographic essay and review of diving with American crocodiles (Crocodylus acutus) at Mexico’s Chinchorro Banks. He describes in some depth how the crocodiles are often static until a photographer approaches too close when they can explode into dynamic action. The wranglers keep a close eye on the animals and use large wooden sticks to act as physical barriers if required.
UW Technics releases TTL firmware for Subtronic strobes
UW Technics has announced new firmware that offers support for TTL profiles with Subtronic strobes. The TTL converters equipped with this firmware are available for many housings and is compatible with both current and legacy Subtronic strobes, along with other strobe brands. The TTL circuits offer flash exposure compensation via the cameras’ controls as well as rear curtain sync with Canon cameras.

Paper documents manta mating behavior
A paper has been published in the journal Fish Biology detailing a 14-year study into the mating and courtship behavior of oceanic (Manta birostris) and reef (Mobula alfredi) manta rays. The study used behavioral observations, video and photographic records to catalog 229 courtship events in the Maldives.
