Sony announces high resolution EVF
Sony has announced a new OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF) with 1.6 times the resolution of existing versions. The ECX339A OLED Microdisplay is a 0.5in. display with 1600 × 1200 resolution with a refresh rate of 240fps. Sony has managed to create a pixel pitch of 6.3µm in the EVF and to maintain the same level of power use as the previous model.

Infographic: Inside Coral Bleaching by bioGraphic
bioGraphic has posted an excellent infographic called “Inside Coral Bleaching”. The graphic was rendered from a 3D model that consisted of over 20,000 images captured primarily by scientists from the 100 Islands Challenge Team. The photogrammmetry was created using Agisoft Photoscan, Blender and Cycles with animations of fish and the coral polyps expelling their zooxanthellae algae added in post.
Fantasea announces UWL-400F conversion lens
Fantasea and AOI have announced the UWL-400F wide Angle conversion lens. Featuring a 52mm mounting thread, but supplied with the EyeDaptor M67-F52 lens adaptor, the lens offers an 120° FOV (with a 25mm lens) and will focus on its dome.
Research shows Pacific shark highway
Researchers from the University of Costa Rica along with Fundación PACÍFICO have successfully proven the existence of a 500 mile “corridor” along which shark populations move between Costa Rica and the Galapagos. The route seems to follow a series of subsurface sea mounts, giving rise to speculation as to whether these serve as navigational references or feeding sites. Fishermen in India are collecting and recycling ocean plastic
Several thousand fishermen in Kerala, India have begun collecting and recycling the ocean plastic they encounter each day out on the ocean. Along with several government agencies, the fishermen are trying to give back to the ocean that has provided for them by cleaning it up. This is the first recycling center in the region and it was set up specifically to combat ocean plastic. Since August of last year the fishermen have collected and recycled 65 metric tons of ocean plastic.
Paper catalogs whale shark movements off Madagascar
A new paper in the journal Endangered Species Research shows that the Indian Ocean island of Madagascar has emerged as a hot spot for whale sharks (Rhincodon typus). By using the global sightings database, Wildbook for Whale Shark researchers have identified 85 individual sharks, which do not seem to have come from other feeding areas in the Indian Ocean.
