Sea&Sea announces the MDX-7D Mark II housing
Sea&Sea has officially announced their housing for the Canon EOS 7D Mark II. It is compatible with the company’s internal YS converter and its control levers have been re-designed for better ergonomics. It has two fiber-optic bulkheads as well as the option of Nikonos and HDMI connections.
Nikon announces the D7200 SLR camera
Nikon has announced their D7200 DX format SLR camera. It has a 24.2 megapixel sensor, no low -pass filter and the EXPEED 4 processor. Native ISO range is 100 to 25,600 and it has a “51-point autofocus array powered by a new Advanced Multi-CAM 3500II DX high-density system”. Video is available at 1080 at 30/25/24p and 1080 at 60/50p in 1.3x Crop Mode. It looks like the D7200 may fit into some existing housings, for more info, please see the thread on the Wetpixel forum.
Results: Our World Underwater 2015
The results of the 2015 Our World Underwater photography contest have been announced. Jointly hosted by Wetpixel and DivePhotoGuide, the winners will share some $50,000 in prizes and the kudos of being placed in the world’s premier underwater imaging contest. Congratulations to Anthony Berberian for his stunning winning image which won the Macro Unrestricted category and was awarded Best in Show. Similarly, congratulations to all the winners, particularly to the many members of the Wetpixel community in the placings.
Underwater Photography issue 83 available
Underwater Photography Magazine issue 83 is now available for download. The March/April 2015 issue features, among others, articles about the Canon G7, Sony RX100, diving with seals and diving in Dumaguete, Philippines.
DeepPro Systems releases white and color balance slate
DeepPro Systems has announced the release of a series of white balance, exposure and color calibration slates for underwater use. The slightly buoyant plastic slates are in a 16:9 aspect ratio and can be used both for white balancing underwater and for color correction in post production for both still and video shooters.
RIP Dr. Eugenie Clark
Dr. Eugenie Clark, explorer and scientist, has died at home in Sarasota, Florida, aged 92. Best known as “The Shark Lady”, she was a pioneering marine biologist, diver and environmental campaigner. She once summed up her philosophy: “Love fish. Love sharks. Keep the water and their habitats as clean and protected as possible”. The Wetpixel community would like to send their thoughts and prayers to Dr Clark’s family and friends. The world has lost a true ocean spirit, and she will be both sorely missed and fondly remembered.
Final call for entries: Wildlife Photographer of the Year
While you are preparing you final entries for the DEEP Indonesia contest, it may be worth duplicating a few and entering them in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition too. Its deadline is tomorrow (26 February).
Call for entries: University of Miami RSMAS underwater photo contest
The 2015 University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science Underwater Photography Contest is now open for entries. The deadline for entry is midnight March 20, 2015. The contest is open to amateur photographers who earn no more than twenty percent of their income from photography.
