OneUW ships diffuser for 160X strobe
OneUW is now shipping a diffuser for their 160X strobes. It is bayonet mounted and has no effect on the strobe’s color temperature. It ships with a lanyard and a red filter that can be used to avoid spooking shy critters when using the aiming light.
Aquatech announces Reflex housing for Hasselblad X1D II 50C
Aquatech has announced a partnership with Hasselblad, launching their Reflex housing for the Hasselblad X1D II 50C medium format camera. The polycarbonate housing is compatible with Aquatech’s P and PD series ports, allowing it to e used with Hasselblad XCD lenses. The maximum depth is 10m.
Nauticam ships WWL-C
Nauticam is now shipping their new version of the Wet Wide Lens. WWL-C is designed for compact cameras with lenses at 24mm equivalent, Although it will work with a range of Micro 4/3s and mirrorless cameras. At 24mm, it offers a 130° FOV. It mounts via a bayonet, and adaptors are available for use with selected Olympus housings too.
Issue 115 of UwP Magazine is available
Issue 115 of Underwater Photography Magazine (UwP) is now available to download. This issue features competition results from the Underbathwater Photographer of the Year, the United Nations, and Smithsonian contests. There are technique articles on camera buoyancy and trim, split shots, working with inexperienced models, and photographing frogs in an urban setting. Also included is a host of information bout new products, travel ideas, and essential information for underwater photographers.
Expedition captures images of octopus at 7000 meters
The BBC reports that the Five Deeps expedition has published stills of a Dumbo octopus (Grimpoteuthis sp) from a depth of 6.957m (22,825ft). They were captured using a “lander” or instrument frame with an attached camera and (in this instance) a bait that is lowered to the seabed. The previously deepest recorded cephalopod was a Cirroteuthidae sp pictured at 5145m (16,880ft) off Barbados in 1971.

Firmware update adds significant functionality to Sigma fp
Sigma has released a significant firmware update for their fp camera. Version 2.0 adds 12-bit 4K ProRes RAW video recording to an Atomos Ninja V external recorder, 1080/120p RAW video in 8-bit and 10-bit CinemaDNG and support for Dual Base ISO, which can now be set to either 100 or 3200 along with other upgrades and bug fixes.
Tokina announces atx-i 11-20mm f/2.8 wide angle lens
Tokina are shipping their atx-1 11-20mm f/2.8 CF lens for cropped sensor cameras. Offering a constant aperture of f/2.8 and internal focusing, and a minimum focus distance of 0.28 m (11-inches). It is available in Nikon F mount and Canon EF mount. Of course, its performance behind a dome port is not yet known.
