Late availability: Wetpixel PNG Eastern Fields 2012

A couple of places have opened up on the Wetpixel Papua New Guinea Eastern Fields Expedition. The spaces are available on the trip running from 10 to 20 January 2012 and is aboard MV Golden Dawn. The Eastern Fields are a submerged coral reef atoll system in the middle of the Coral Sea, where the corals are unspoiled. The waters of Papua New Guinea are teeming with marine life, and you can’t get to many of the places that will be visited except on a liveaboard. Even better, at any given time, the group will probably be the only people in the water. This trip has been sold out for quite some time so these spaces are going to go very quickly.

If you are interested please get in contact with Dan Baldocci very soon.

Picture Perfect Curacao Photo

Picture Perfect Curacao

Over on DivePhotoGuide (DPG), a report on and the results of the Picture Perfect Curacao (North American Underwater Photographer of the Year) competition have been posted. The basis of the contest was that a group of DPG monthly competition series winners, Allison Vitsky, Jeremy Kozman and Rand Mcmeins, were flown to Curacao, given $1000, put up at Lions Dive and Beach Resort and given diving by Ocean Encounters to compete not only between themselves but also against Keri Wilk, to see whose images would be used for Curacao Tourism’s next ad campaign. Despite the “amateurs” achieving great results, with Alison winning three of the five categories, the overall winner was Keri. The contest was an interesting one, as the images were being judged for use in Curacao’s upcoming advertising campaigns, rather than solely on artistic merit.

Jonathan Yi on the Canon EOS C300 Photo

Jonathan Yi on the Canon EOS C300

Commercial director Jonathan Yi has posted a humorous but thorough video review of the new Canon EOS C300 digital cinema camera onto Vimeo. He says about the film:

“In early Fall 2011, I shot some footage with a pre-production model of the Canon EOS C300 for one week in NYC. I created an article and a video for Canon based on my experiences with the camera. The video is meant to poke fun at most camera test videos I’ve seen over the years. Canon, not thrilled with my sense of humor, does not credit or condone this video, but I think it shows a lot of the camera’s strengths.”

His full review of the camera is available on the Canon Digital Learning Center. The video contains a little (humorous) bad language and some implied nudity!
