Wetpixel Quarterly Issue 7 ships this week (available for order)

Wetpixel Quarterly #7 has left the printer and will be on its way to subscribers around the world this week. WPQ7 contains the portfolio of Douglas Seifert, the winning images from OWU 2009 and DEEP 2009 underwater photography contests, a portfolio from Operation Musashi, Sea Shepherd’s anti-whaling campaign, and more. For more about issue 7, see the product page.

The issue is now available for pre-order, and will be shipped starting mid-November. We’ll also be showing WPQ7 at our booth at DEMA (#1068).

Newly-designed Wetpixel t-shirts now available!

Great news! New Wetpixel t-shirts are now available for order. Our 2010 design features intertwined hammerhead sharks in an intricate, circular pattern designed by Wetpixel member Nicholas Samaras. Wetpixel shirts are made with super-soft organic cotton, and are available in black or white.

As always, quantities are limited. Also, at the bottom of the swag page are a few shirts from 2009. There are literally only a few left, so order them now before they’re gone. We’ll have a bunch at our DEMA booth as well (#1068).

Wetpixel sailfish expedition, January 17-24, 2010

Sailfish photos and video have been appearing all over magazines and websites for the past 2-3 years; Wetpixel has secured 8 days on the water snorkeling and photographing sailfish this coming January 17-24, 2010! Fly in to Cancun on the 16th and depart the 25th. Photographers Tony Wu and I are currently booked for the trip, and we’re looking for 2 more adventurous snorkelers / photographers (4 total, on the boat). We have 4-day or 8-day spots.

The price is approximately $500/day plus hotel, food, and airfare to Cancun, Mexico. Please contact Eric ASAP if you are interested! If you’re on the fence, check out Wetpixel moderator Shawn Heinrich’s video from last year. It is going to be insane out there.

Ikelite digital SLR housings now feature 4 port locks

Starting November 1, 2009, Ikelite digital SLR housings will ship with 4 port locks and a 1/4-20 threaded mounting point for the attachment of a focus light, video light, or other accessory.

Ikelite notes that all ports are compatible with the new locks with the exception of the #5510.10 Superwide Port Body. Anyone who purchased a new Ikelite dSLR housing after October 1 will receive a complimentary upgrade. Older housings can be upgraded for $150 plus return shipping.

DIVE 2009 UK show coverage

Dive 2009 is an annual two-day show held at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, UK and this year more than 320 exhibitors were due to show their products.

Of specific interest to underwater photographers are the stands operated by Cameras Underwater, Ocean Optics,Ocean Visions, Fantasea Line, the British Society of Underwater Photographers (BSOUP), Horvarth & Partner and The Underwater Channel. New book: The Colors in Mexico’s Waters

Team Wetpixel member Karen Doody (NCmermaid) has recently published a book of her images titled The Colors in Mexico’s Waters. This book of photos, accompanied by an engaging poetic text, is designed to inspire and delight the reader with the vibrant flora and fauna found both above and below the waters of Mexico’s Caribbean coast. From the tinest of fish faces to the granduer of the Mayan cenote system, the 8-1/2 x 11” hardback book features some of her favorite diving images.

Aquatica announces underwater housing for Nikon D300s Photo

Aquatica announces underwater housing for Nikon D300s

Aquatica has announced a new housing for the Nikon D300s, Nikon’s 12.3 megapixel SLR capable of 720p HD video. With the new housing, Aquatica introduces both optical fiber and regular Nikonos and Ikelite bulkheads for strobe sync. Aquatica also mentions that they provide fingertip access to all camera menus and video controls including both AF-ON activation and AE-AF lock buttons, which are accessible via a single lever.

The new D300s housing will be showcased next week at the DEMA show at booth #969.
