BlurFix adapter released for GoPro HERO
Snake River Prototyping has released an adapter for the GoPro Hero HD POV cam’s underwater housing. BlurFix fixes the GoPro HD underwater focus issue by placing a flat 55 mm filter in front of the housing’s OEM fish-eye lens. Included with the lens is a low profile UV filter that has no vignetting in 480p, 720p, and 1080p modes. The company also offers low profile filters for the adapter by URPro which can add color correction for green or blue water.
Snake River Prototyping has supplied Wetpixel with a review model, so please check back for a review of its performance soon. BlurFix is available now at $75 for a self-install kit, or $130 pre-mounted to a housing.
Snake River Prototyping is offering the BlurFix(TM) adapter for your GoPro(R) HD camera. The BlurFix allows you to adapt a wide variety of 55 mm filters to your camera.
For diving, snorkeling, and spearfishing enthusiasts the BlurFix fixes the GoPro HD underwater focus issue by placing a flat 55 mm filter in front of the OEM fish-eye lens. The included low profile UV filter is depth tested to 130ft and has no vignetting in 480p, 720p, and 1080p modes. Also available, are currently three custom low profile filters by URPro that produce the same vignetting results (or lack thereof) with the added benefit of color correction for green or blue water. Because camera filters are made of glass, the optical clarity is superior to plastic lenses. The waterproofing of the OEM housing is not compromised because the OEM fish-eye lens and seal remain in place. Blurfix is CNC machined out of aluminum and anodized black. Its black finish and stepped chamfer on the inside surface give you superb optical performance (similar to all high-end camera lens.) Also included with the system are reusable desiccant balls that are installed in a captive groove immediately behind the filter so that fogging is never an issue even if you are assembling the unit in a humid environment.
For above water use the BlurFix allows you to adapt a wide variety of 55 mm filters to your GoPro including polarizing, ND, graduated, magnifying, and color filters. These filters will improve your video in environments where overexposure or reflections can affect your video quality. Because almost every 55 mm filter on the market is compatible with BlurFix, you are only limited by how far your imagination can take you. In addition, the filters can be removed for no vignetting in all modes (r1-r5) so your GoPro can quickly be reconfigured for shooting video that is identical to that taken with the OEM GoPro HD camera housing.
You can buy the BlurFix adapter (with included filter, sealant, and desiccant balls) and assemble the unit yourself or Snake River Prototyping can ship you a fully assembled and pressure tested housing with the filter of your choosing.
