Call for entries: Our World Underwater and DEEP 2016
The 11th edition of the Underwater Competition Series, organized by founders DivePhotoGuide.com and Wetpixel, is returning in 2016 with over $100,000 worth of prizes up for grabs.
Opening today, November 20, the series comprises Our World Underwater, known as the “Super Bowl” of underwater imagery events, and DEEP Indonesia, the signature component of Indonesia’s prestigious diving, adventure travel and extreme sports expo.
As every year, there is a host of amazing prizes to be won, including the latest underwater photography equipment as well as trips to the best resorts and on the top liveaboards. Prizes are awarded to winners in 13 categories, with the grand prizewinner of the Our World Underwater competition receiving $1000 in cash.
The competition categories are aimed at photographers of all levels, from novices and compact camera users to professional wildlife photographers and even commercial or fashion photographers. As in previous editions, Our World Underwater features technical categories, while DEEP Indonesia offers themed entry categories. Debuting last year, DEEP includes a category dedicated to in-water surf, wave, and watersports photography.
In a joint statement, organizers Matt Weiss and Eric Cheng said:
“We’re very proud to be launching the 11th edition of the Our World Underwater and DEEP Indonesia competitions, which have established themselves as two of the world’s top underwater photography contests. We’re looking forward to seeing more of the amazing talent in underwater photography—from all across the globe—that we’ve seen in previous years.”
As previously, the judges consist of a panel of industry experts, including photographers, filmmakers and publishing professionals. The distinguished judging panel includes award-winning photographers Daniel Botelho, Keri Wilk, Alex Mustard, Berkley White, Amanda Cotton, and Aaron Wong. Editors Joe Tepper (DivePhotoGuide) and Abi Smigel Mullens (Wetpixel) round off the judging panel.
The Our World Underwater competition winners will be announced, and their winning images showcased, at the Our World Underwater Exhibition on February 26, while the winners of the DEEP Indonesia competition will be announced on March 31, with their entries exhibited at the show. Our international media partners will also be publishing the winning images, reaching an audience of millions.
The organizers are once again pleased to announce that 15% of entry proceeds will be donated to marine conservation efforts.
