Abi on Deep Water Cay

On the east end of Grand Bahama Island is Deep Water Cay. Known mostly for it’s sand flats and epic bone fishing, Deep Water Cay has introduced scuba in recent months. Stephen, Cristian and I headed out there to check it out. After an hours drive and a short boat ride, we were there.

There were interesting horizons to photograph in every direction

First stop were the sand flats right off the island resort where there were mangroves, sea stars and white sand.

Working the over unders in shallow, warm, clear water is a pleasure!

shallow
Deep Water Cay has nice shallow reefs with easy swim throughs in many places

staghorn
We also found some healthy staghorn coral. Here Cristian films the reef.

thrift
The most enchanting part of the day was an inlet where we snorkeled, called Thrift Dive. The entire snorkel was in only a few feet of water with lots of things to see.

group
All in all it was a lovely day on the east side of the island. Now Cristian is off to Abacos and Stephen and I are off to Green Turtle Cay.
