Image: Dolphins and sardines by Greg Lecoeur
Greg Lecoeur took this shot off shore Port Saint Johns on 21 June 2015 during a trip with the Offshore Africa Port St Johns. He reports: “The sardine run has just started, and there is a lot of marine life and action. The sardines are moving and it’s complicated to dive with the bait ball. But Rob, the captain of the boat spotted the activity of the Cape Gannet birds and ask me to jump in the water. I saw a small bait ball that came under me. So I drifted in the current with the bait ball and 2 others divers when this dolphin started hunting the sardines just in front of my camera”.
Greg captured the image with a Nikon D7000 with a Tokina 10-17mm lens, housed in a Nauticam housing with a mini dome. It was lit with 2 Ikelite DS160 strobes. Camera settings were 1/200@f9, ISO200.
