Wetpixel member and Canon Pro Franco Banfi’s blog has been published on the European Canon Explorers site. His most recent illustrated entry talks about his recent trip to the Svalbard Archipelag, which had the aim of photographing walruses (Odobenus rosmarus) underwater. To this end, he used a polecam with a Retra uTrigger remote trigger to capture some amazing and unique close-up images of these incredible animals.

The walruses got very close:

“While underwater some walruses used their whiskers (vibrissae) as feelers on my underwater camera dome. Hundreds of stiff, straw-coloured hairs, thick and curly quills as sensitive as fingers, cover the lips of a walrus… thanks to these whiskers, walruses can distinguish objects the size of a small medicine pill.”
