Little green shrimp footage on forum

Wetpixel member Simon Buxton has posted a super macro video onto the forum that was partially shot using the Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro lens. This lens will shoot “larger than life-size” and with a 24cm closest focusing distance; up to 5x life-size. Some parts of the video were shot using the lens and a Canon 5D Mark III, whilst others were shot using a Canon 7D with the Canon 100mm lens and stacked 5x and 10x Subsee dioptres.

The “little green shrimp” (Phycocaris sp) was first discovered in Lembeh in October 2011.

I will be in the Philippines on the 12th-18th doing some testing. Thats funny that you shot this because I was thinking how little footage we have seen with the 65mm. I was going to do some shooting with this lens and I have been trying to read up on it. This is one of the Super macro comparisons that I found on line http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnhallmen/4320502042/ How did the Subsea system work for you? I have a Macromate which is +10. I've also seen people use teleconverters 1.4 & 2X. I will probably try both. What housing did you use and how close was your lens to the front of the housing? Posted by Jeffrey Honda on 2013-01-07 21:10:29 My tests with my MP-E 65mm lens show that it is only sharp at f8, with sharpness falling off radically at smaller apertures. Therefore, it is impossible to get what would be acceptable depth of field for most images and good sharpness at the same time. Of course video is more forgiving in this regard. Since I only shoot stills, I have never considered housing this lens for underwater work because the difficulty of nailing the focus means you would want to stop down to at least f22, but the lens does not perform well at small apertures. Has anyone else with this lens checked the performance at various apertures and found similar (or different) results? Doug
