The Misool Foundation has announced that they will be holding a fundraiser in conjunction with WildAid in Portland, OR on 2 November 2017. The event is being supported by Patagonia and will be held in the Patagonia store at 1106 West Burnside Street. The $48 admission fee will go towards Foundation, and there is the opportunity to enter a raffle for a stay at the resort.

The Coral Reefs of Raja Ampat Indonesia come to Portland (plus win a trip to Misool private island resort!)

Conservation Trailblazers Patagonia and WildAid team up with Emmy Award-Winning Filmmaker Shawn Heinrichs and Misool co-founder Marit Miners for this rare chance to go underwater and behind the scenes at Misool’s award-winning resort and Misool Foundation.

While on a dive trip in 2005, Marit + Andrew Miners stumbled upon a shark finning camp and decided then and there to start a conservation project. Tribal elders gave their blessing to establish a the Misool Marine Reserve spanning 300,00 acres, inside which all fishing is forbidden. This unique collaboration has empowered 15 full-time paid rangers to take back their reefs with a 24/7, year-round patrol.

Shawn Heinrichs is best known for his work in Racing Extinction, but he’s also a member of the boards at both Misool and WildAid International. In addition to treating guests to his favourite Racing Extinction clips, he will talk about his work with Misool Foundation from its inception. Marit, who was key to strategizing this unique partnership between business, conservation, and advocacy on behalf of local communities, will look back to the challenges of building of Misool and forward to describe new horizons and events.

Entry to the event is a USD 48 donation. All proceeds to benefit Misool Foundation and WildAid to support 24/7 enforcement of the 300,000 acre Marine Protected Area and coastal community programs supporting education, recycling of plastics, and sustainable livelihoods.
