New marine reserves announced at the Our Oceans Conference
The Huffington Post reports that Chile and the U.S.A. have both announced new marine reserves at the Our Ocean Conference currently being held in Chile. President Obama has announced a new 875 square mile reserve in Lake Michigan, and a 14 square mile reserve in the tidal River Potomac, Maryland. President Michelle Bachelet of Chile announced two new marine conservation parks. She outlined plans to ban fishing in an 115,000 square mile area around the San Ambrosio and San Felix Islands. This is the largest marine reserve anywhere in the Americas.
