Ocean Encounters app available on iTunes
Wetpixel member Brandon Cole has released an iPhone/iPad app called Ocean Encounters. This is an interactive photo ebook that aims to showcase underwater photography from around the world. The 250 images within the app can be accessed via an interactive world map, by scrolling through the images one by one, or through a slideshow. The images have captions available, including information about the subjects, first person accounts and conservation information.
The app is available now for purchase from iTunes or via the Mac app store.
“Ocean Encounters, a Photographic Exploration of Marine Widlife.”
Ocean Encounters for short.
Our new, interactive photo-ebook app showcasing dramatic, colorful underwater photography of creatures large and small, whales to snails, from tropical and temperate seas worldwide, available for download now from the iTunes App Store for use on the Apple iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch mobile devices.
We designed this to have broad-based appeal. Ocean Encounters will appeal to scuba divers and underwater photographers, of course, our core audience, as well as snorkelers, tidepoolers, travelers- in short, people of all ages with an appreciation for nature, wildlife and wild places, etc. And since the coverage is global, people from all over will find the content relevant and engaging.
250 photos (some of our favorites from over 20 years) arranged into 25 galleries (examples- Galapagos, sharks and dolphins from the Bahamas, weird little critters from Indonesia’s resplendent reefs, great white sharks, swimming with whales, etc.)
Some clever functionality has been built into this app, including a very cool interactive world map, zoomable. Tap the angelfish icon over the Maldives and you’re transported beneath the waves of the Indian Ocean. Once in a gallery of images, you can choose to swipe through photos one by one at your own pace, or kick back and watch a mini-slideshow. Also, your choice to read our captions or not, easy toggle on and off. Learn more about the animals (natural history factoids, where they’re found, conservation information, etc.) Plus anecdotal first person accounts, “notes from the field”, recounting exciting, scary, funny, memorable dives in our log book. Other great options- user can select an image for use as your device wallpaper, or post a low res image on your Facebook page , even sync a slide show to music, etc.
We want to be on the leading wave of this great new technology, as it’s sucha phenomenal way to share the beauty of Ocean, the fun of diving and marine discovery. iPad is a gorgeous platform on which to enjoy photography. So portable! Easy to download before your next dive trip and carry it along on the plane and onto the boat! And its price- at less than a cup of coffee it’s a great value!.
