Wetpixel and DivePhotoGuide’s in-house competitions have been announced and are now calling for entries. Together, they represent over $80,000 worth of prizes, supplied by our amazing competition sponsors. Our World Underwater 2013 has categories for macro and wide-angle in both restricted and unrestricted classes, compact, novice, video and commercial, conceptual and fashion. DEEP Indonesia 2013 has categories for divers, animal portrait, animal behavior, reefscapes , compact cameras and two new ones for 2013: Surf and sharks.

OWU has a deadline of 19 January 2013 and DEEP Indonesia’s is 10 February 2012. Full details, rules and entry requirements are on the UnderwaterCompetition.com website.

The Underwater Competition series returns in 2013 for its 8th year with over $80,000 in prizes. Known as the “Super Bowl” of underwater imagery events, the series has developed a reputation as being one of the elite underwater photography competitions. The competitions series, made up of the Our World Underwater and DEEP Indonesia contests, truly showcases the unique art of underwater photography.

Prizes include trips to the top resorts and liveaboards, as well as underwater photography equipment and are awarded to winners in more than 15 categories. Additionally, the grand prizewinner of the Our World Underwater competition will be given $1000.

The series, organized and founded by DivePhotoGuide.com and Wetpixel, is designed for photographers of all levels, with categories ranging from novice to professional and even commercial photography. As in the past, Our World Underwater contest features technical categories, while DEEP Indonesia offers themed entry categories.

The organizers, Matt Weiss and Eric Cheng, released the following statement:

“We are excited to announce the 8th-annual Our World Underwater and DEEP Indonesia competitions. Each year, we continue to be surprised by the quality and creativity of the photographs submitted, and we have no doubt that this year will exceed our expectations once again. It is our honor to showcase and award these talented photographers.”

As in years past, the judges will consist of a panel of industry experts including professional photographers, cinematographers and magazine editors. The winners of the Our World Underwater contest will be announced and exhibited at the Our World Underwater Exhibition on February 15th. Winners of the DEEP Indonesia contest will be announced on March 7, 2013 and displayed at the show. Additionally, our international media partners will publish the winning images, reaching an audience of millions.

Once again, we are proud to announce that 15 percent of entry proceeds will be donated to marine conservation efforts.
