The awards of the famous nature photography competition “European Wildlife Photographer of the Year” was presented at the International Nature Photography Festival in Lünen, Germany. Underwater photographer Magnus Lundgren from Sweden was awarded first place in the Underwater category with a shot of a sailfish striking a ball of sardines. On top of this Magnus was also honoured the second place in the Mammals category with a vertical shot of a pod of sperm whales sleeping. Magnus says:
“It is of course a great honour to be two-time awarded the same year in European Wildlife Photographer of the Year as it is one of the most recognised competitions in the world of nature photography. I am really excited about the prices and it is a great chance for me to communicate intense moments and/or issues in nature to a great audience. My goal has always been to create emotional stories and images that hopefully is connecting the viewer with nature. The sea different environments are a highly urgent topic today and our oceans need all the awareness it can get to create changes for the better.”
