The results of the 2014 Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest were announced last night at a gala occasion at the Natural History Museum in London, England. The Duchess of York presented the prizes and in conversation with Wetpixel Associate Editor Alex Mustard mentioned that she loves nudibranchs and night diving!

The overall winner is a stunning mono image of a pride of resting lions by Michael Nichols. The winner of the Underwater Species category was Indra Swart Wonowidjojo of Indonesia with an image of two whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) taken at Cenderawasih Bay. Other underwater photographers in the listings include Alex Mustard, Cristian Vizl, Brian Skerry, Fabien Michenet, Geo Cloete, Adriana Basques, Chris Gug, Jordi Chias, Adriano Morettin, Rodrigo Friscione Wyssmann, Paul Hilton, Matthew Smith and Pedro Carrillo.
