ADEX show 2014 day 1 coverage.

ADEX is Asia’s largest underwater and diving exhibition. Located in the Marina Bay Sands Expo center, literally in the shadow of its famous sibling hotel, the show attracts attendees from all over Asia and offers stands from businesses from around the world. As is frequently the case, underwater imaging is well represented at the show with stands from major brands as well as local retailers.

Dive shows are also a great place to meet up with old friends and make new ones. Asia is the premium diving destination for many people, so it is perhaps no wonder that many industry characters attend. ADEX has an active roster of speakers, with a main stage and a specific imaging one and draws speakers from around the globe.

In terms of new equipment, the show had little to offer. The dearth of new camera models from Nikon and Canon has meant that there is little to report on in terms of innovation, but rather a continued creeping development.

Singapore retailer, Scubacam, had several new housings and products at the show and they were showing a 3D printed prototype of a new housing for the Black Magic Pocket Camera from Subal. Details and availability are to be confirmed.

Scubacam also had Subal’s housing for the Nikon D7100.

Scubacam were also showing several Nauticam housings. These included their housing for the Sony A7R. There is much debate whether the housing will also fit the recently announced A7S, which will only be resolved once the camera is available.

In addition, the company had the massively powerful Seawolf Orcalight. It produces 20,000 lumen from an umbilical style light with a head that has a 1” ball mounting.

The team from Scubazoo were displaying their books on the the Scubacam stand too.

Seacam had a stand with owner Harald Hordosch in “residence”. The company has produced a very elegant conversion for the Nikonos RS 13mm lens, which will be the subject of an in-depth article later. Suffice to say that it seems to give very good corner sharpness even at wide open apertures.
