Wetpixel contributor Don Silcock updates his first impressions review of the Nikon D500 camera. Having now used the camera a great deal, he offers valuable insight into its performance and some important pointers into how this camera can produce amazing underwater images.
Wetpixel presents a comprehensive review of the SEACAM Silver housing for the Nikon D500 SLR camera. The housing has been tested over 45 days of diving over the past several months, primarily during dives in cold water in Norway at Gulen Dive Resort and the UK.

Ikelite has announced their new housing for the Nikon D500 camera along with a whole new port mounting system. Available is three versions, the housing is made of Ikelite’s white ABS-PC and has a redesigned zoom/focus knob and AF ON lever. The new port mount is a press-fit O ring sealed system that eliminates water from entering the housing during port changes and accommodates large diameter lenses.
Nauticam has announced that their housing for the Nikon D500 is now shipping. It features a bespoke Nauticam electro-optical converter which allows TTL optical flash triggering via hotshoe. The NA-D500 also has access to the camera’s user assignable buttons.
Nikon Professional Services UK held their first launch event for the new D5 and D500 SLR cameras in Manchester, UK yesterday. Wetpixel was on hand to take some pictures of the new cameras and to report on the event.
Nikon has finally announced a new pro DX (cropped sensor) camera. The D500 features a 20.9 megapixel sensor with the EXPEED 5 image processing engine. It has Nikon’s new Multicam 20K AF system, a native ISO range from 100 to 51200 and UHD video at 30/25/24p frame rates.
