Beached Gray whale survives 3 days in Mexico

A gray whale has survived a 3-day beaching ordeal in Baja, Mexico. In mid-February the whale swam into a shallow canal in Puerto Adolfo Lopez Mateos and was then trapped when the tide receded. Over three days workers with the federal environmental protection agency kept the whale hydrated by using pumps and digging holes in the sand around it to allow water to pool. On the third day the tide rose high enough to allow the whale to be freed, and it swam away using its own power.

Video: Watch as orcas feed on gray whale carcass in Monterey

Earth Touch news has featured video from the Monterey Bay Whale Watch that features what is thought to be the first footage of its kind of transient orcas feeding on the carcass of a gray whale. The whale watching boat first spotted the orcas on April 20th and then sent the drone up to get a better perspective of the rare feeding behavior. “Over 35 hours and [they were] still feeding as we left!” the team stated.
