Guido Schmitz, center manager of Gulen Dive Resort, Norway has shot a great short film featuring the amazing nudibranchs found on the infamous house reef at the resort. Temperate water nudibranch species are as fascinating, colorful and charismatic as their tropical cousins.
Two new genus and four new species of nudibranchs have been described and named after the Gulen Dive Resort and its citizen scientists. One of the new genera is named Gulenia, for the Gulen Dive Resort in Norway’s Sognefjord. While one of the brand new species is named Fjordia chriskaugei for Christian Skauge. Two other species have been named Gulenia monicae and Gulenia orjani for Monica Bakkeliwas and Ørjan Sandnes, respectively, both owners of the Gulen Dive Resort.
The Gulen Nudibranch Safari is a unique annual event run at Gulen Dive Resort, Norway. It combines science, photography and diving with, unsurprisingly, a focus on the nudibranch species that populate the reefs of Gulen. Wetpixel is on hand to report on the event.
