Wetpixel Editor Adam Hanlon is in Porto Santo, Portugal reporting live from the 2021 CMAS World Underwater Photo and Video Championships. The event has attracted 48 teams from 18 countries to compete in a live shootout or “photosub” style imaging contest, which carries prestigious national awards for the winning teams, and (perhaps brief!) fame for the winning individuals. The contest runs from Monday 4, through to Sunday 10 October and Adam will be posting daily updates from it, so please keep checking back to find out all this is going on!

Wetpixel editor Adam Hanlon reports from the 2019 CMAS World Underwater Photography and Video Championship, being held in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. The 2019 Championship has 93 entrants from 20 countries (with 10 teams in the video category from 10 countries). Most teams consist of a photographer or videographer and an assistant, competing for the coveted title of “World Champion.”

Wetpixel has been running trips to Isla Mujeres, Mexico since 2011 to witness and document the amazing whale shark (Rhincodon typus) aggregation that occurs here. Perhaps uniquely, this is an opportunity to join literally 100s of the world’s largest fishes as they feed on the plentiful plankton that abounds in the area. Wetpixel and Sam’s Tours hosted a image makers party during the ADEX Show, Singapore. Over 50 people gathered at Vatos Urban Tacos to chat, socialize, network and have good time. The party drank the bar dry at the original venue, before heading on to another bar and keeping on going until 3am. Fortunately for those of us unable to attend, Wetpixel’s Drew Wong was on hand to document the action.

There is a fair amount of confusion about the events at Guadalupe Island, Mexico that are being depicted in 2 videos that are doing the rounds at present. Both depict great white sharks (Carcharodon carcharias) entering cages during dives when there were divers in them.
