Abi Mullens, for Wetpixel, is currently in Madeira, Portugal covering the Underwater European Championship and 1st Madeira Underwater Photography and Video Open. Previously the CMAS World Championship of Underwater Photography and videography was held in Porto Santo, Portugal.

Perhaps fittingly over the Thanksgiving holiday, the 2021 DPG/Wetpixel Masters of Underwater Imaging has finalized all the scores and announced its results. Please settle into somewhere comfortable and celebrate a magnificent selection of underwater imagery. Definitely, a thing to savor! Hearty congratulations to all the winners, and especially to Martin Broen for his beautiful back and white entry that took the top prize.
Wetpixel, along with our friends at Underwater360°, are hosting a series of short discussions on the ADEXPixel21 platform. Entitled “Conversation with the Masters of Underwater Photography,” the first installment will be live on Sunday 8 August at 2 pm Singapore time (0700 BST, 0200 ET, and 2300 PDT). Join Wetpixel Editor Adam Hanlon to introduce some of the topics that are going to be discussed, along with some personal insights into photographic inspiration, followed by a discussion with the very accomplished photographer, Katherine Lu who will chat about her passion for Singapore’s macro opportunities.
Happy World Oceans Day to the Wetpixel community and to image-makers worldwide! So, there is no doubt that every day should be World Oceans Day, but having the UN designate a day in which we all remember and reinforce our commitments to the planet’s oceans and use our imagery to help persuade people that they should be involved in finding solutions for their long-term survival, is a positive and motivating power for good. Please dive into your image libraries and share them wherever you can!

Today is World Photography Day, so please open up your underwater image libraries and share your wonderful pictures. Given the ongoing disruptions to travel and the devastating effects of the COVID-19 crisis on communities worldwide, sharing imagery from the amazing places we visit and document helps to keep people from forgetting how special they are, and encourages them to plan trips once it is safe to do so.
