University of Miami announces its 2013 Underwater Photography Contest results
The University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) has announced the winners of its 2013 Annual Underwater Photography Contest. The competition attracted 650 images from around the world. The winning image is a wide-angle of a harbor seal (Phoca vitaluna) in kelp shot by Kyle McBurnie at Cortes Bank off San Diego.
The contest is somewhat unique in that is open only to amateur photographers (defined as receiving less than 20% of their income from their photography), and it has a specific category for RSMAS students. This was won this year by Laura Rock with her image of a goliath grouper (Epinephelus itajara) shot in Jupiter, Florida.
The full results are available on the RSMAS website. Congratulations to all the winners, and especially to the many members of the Wetpixel community that feature in the placings.
