Western Digital announces portable SSDs
Western Digital has announced two new portable drives specifically designed for photographers and videographers. The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD offers IP55 water and dust resistance with a USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface and reads speeds up to 550 MB/s
Specifically aimed at photographers, the SanDisk My Passport Wireless SSD offers an SSD drive with an enclosure with an integrated wifi connection and a 6700mAh battery. It also has a built in SD card reader and a USB 3.0 interface with 390MB/s transfer speeds.
Both drives are available in 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities. Prices for the Extreme Portable SSD are $100, $170, $350 and $700 respectively. The My Passport Wireless SSD will retail at $230, $300, $500 and $800 respectively. Availability is not yet confirmed for the Extreme Portable SSD (it is listed as being “Not in Stock”) and the My Passport Wireless SSD will ship from 15 February.
