Allen Walker: Blacktips of Aliwal shoal
South African born Allen Walker is a passionate self-taught photographer. Living on the KwaZulu Natal South coast, Allen is supported, inspired and motivated by his stunning wife Ronelle, who has taught him patience, something every photographer needs.
Allen first got involved with wildlife photography in 2007, and finds that with his passion comes with a robust, hard and honest approach to his photography and opinions. He believes that photography should be creative, fresh and inspiring and that photographers should be able both to create beauty through their images and be to able to portray a subject in a context.
He firmly believes that it is important to be able to use images to move people in some way. Allen uses his talents to assist organizations dedicated to conserving the environment. In recent years Allen has entrenched himself as one of South Africa’s leading shark photographers having spent a huge amount of time working with these apex predators. Featured on Full Frame is a selection from his library of images of the blacktip sharks (Carcharhinus limbatus) of Aliwal Shoal. These images have been used locally and internationally to highlight the plight of marine life that die in the KwaZulu Natal shark nets every year.
