Edward Lai: Camera tests
I am the the engineering leader of my company Nauticam. I have always tried, sometimes with my daughter Jacqueline, to test every housing under development to ensure they are ergonomic and user-friendly. This is especially important as I think that actual performance with certain new concepts can only be judged by first-person experience in the field.
We found that it became boring shooting the same subjects at the same place for these tests, and as we also try to make it enjoyable, we now travel to different places and test our housings with different combination of lenses, strobes and settings.
In return, I find using our products in real-world situations, similar to that of our customers, lets us understand more about underwater photography, and the cameras that we house. It also brings the invaluable opportunity of being able to meet many experienced photographers and listen to them. This always enhances our overall knowledge, and brings back lots of inspiration in future product development directions.
I hope you enjoy viewing some of the pictures that I have shot during these tests.
