Keldan Ships Barn Door Accessories
Keldan has announced that they are now shipping barn door light shapers for their 4X and 8X/XR series video lights. Designed to be used underwater, they have 4 hinged doors that can be changed to shape the light to suit creative requirements.
Wetpixel Live: Preparing Images for Publication
Alex and Adam discuss how selecting and preparing images for stock libraries and publication is a different process from that of sharing them online. Specifically, some of the newer editing techniques are seen as potentially compromising image quality too much, and extreme edits of most descriptions are discouraged, with the emphasis being on providing images that are largely satisfactory in camera.
Article Claims Nikon to exit SLR Market
An article published in the Japanese business publication, Nikkei has stated that it has learned that Nikon will “withdraw from the single-lens reflex camera business and shift toward digital offerings amid intensifying competition from smartphone cameras.” This was swiftly followed by a statement from Nikon disabusing the article. Wetpixel Live: Strobe Triggering Advice
As both are recently returned from trips, Alex and Adam discuss some of the equipment issues that were experienced. In both cases, they have been running workshops, so get to see a wide variety of equipment-related problems. The general trend toward fiber optic strobe triggering places great reliance on the circuit boards that generate the flash signal, and photographers need to consider how to build some resilience in the field.
Call for Entries: Mangrove Photography Awards
The 2022 Mangrove Photography Awards is calling for entries. It offers six categories, Wildlife, Humans, Underwater, Landscape, Stories, and Conservation, all within the mangrove environment. The contest is accepting entries now and closes on 22 July.
Introducing Mylio Photos
Mylio Photos is a cataloging system that allows an image library to be synced across multiple devices, including mobile devices, tablets, laptops, and desktops. It also offers powerful organizational tools, works with existing organizational hierarchies, has built-in editing functionality, and syncs with edits in other applications. Images are stored locally but can be synced via the internet or a peer-to-peer network.
Issue 127 of UwP Magazine is Available
The July/August edition of Underwater Photography Magazine (UwP) is now available for download. Featured in edition 127 are the winners of the World Oceans Day and Torbay Splash-In. there are reviews of compact lenses and the Marelux SOFT snoot and an interview with Damien Mauric. You can also find out about shooting jawfish, Julian Rocks and the Sea of Cortez, and much more.
Wetpixel Live: RIP David Salvatori
The super-talented underwater photographer David Salvatori died in an accident while diving off Sicily last weekend. David was always open to new ideas and shared ideas about techniques and creative ideas with everyone. Many of us in the Wetpixel community benefitted profoundly from his advice, which he gave freely. Alex and Adam reminisce sadly and fondly about their memories of David and chat about how much we will miss him. God speed David Salvatori.
