World Oceans Day 2022
The 2022 United Nations World Oceans Day is today, 8 June! While everyday should be a day for the oceans, the UN has a series of live events scheduled, around the theme of “Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean” that aim to focus attention on the plight of the oceans and illustrate how governments, businesses, organizations and individuals can play a part in protecting the oceans.These commence at 10AM EDT, and include the announcement of the results of the 2022 World Oceans Day Imaging contest at 11.30 PDT.
Late Availability: Wetpixel Red Sea
Due to a change in their personal circumstances, we have had late cancellations from 3 people that were planning to attend both Wetpixel Red Sea Photo Odysseys. As the first of these starts on 22 May, they have suggested that they would be amenable to offering their spaces at a reduced rate in order to recoup some of their expenses. The participants are spending time creating amazing imagery in this beautiful and unique environment while being given mentorship, feedback, and ideas from Natalie Gibb and Tom St George. UwP Issue 126 is Available
Issue 126 of Underwater Photography Magazine (UwP) is available to download now. It contains reviews of the Nikon Z7 II, Backscatter color filters, and GoPro setups. Articles include the story of the finding of the Endurance and how whale tagging is carried out. There is an interview with Tony Myshlyaev and locations include Sali Kecil and the Maldives.
Video: Narcissus by Behind the Mask
Our friends at Behind the Mask have released their amazing short film “Narcissus.” Julie Gautier describes the film as “a beautiful cinematic illusion and a contemporary interpretation of a classic myth about how ego is leading humanity to drown in its own image.” In it, she interprets the Greek myth of Narcissus by performing upside down in y-40 on breath-hold.
Spaces Available: Wetpixel/Alex Mustard Lembeh Workshops
Indonesia is opening up for foreign travels and due to scheduling conflicts, we have a few spaces available for the rescheduled Wetpixel/Alex Mustard Macro Workshops at Lembeh Resort. The dates are 8 to 17 and 17 to 27 March 2023. These workshops are typically very oversubscribed, so please let Adam know very soon if you are interested in attending.

Wetpixel Live: Nikon Z9 for Underwater Image Makers
Wetpixel Editor Adam Hanlon was fortunate to get “hand-on” with the new Nikon Z9 at a Nikon Pro event recently. He was able to do some perfunctory tests with the new camera along with some of the lenses that are useful for underwater image makers. He tries to discover whether the Z9 is an appropriate upgrade for use underwater.
