Canon announces four 4K camcorders
Canon has announced four professional 4K 30p camcorders. The XA55 and XA50 have 1-inch sensors, nine-bladed apertures, and Dual-Pixel CMOS AF. The XA40 and XA45 have 1/2.84 sized sensors and eight-bladed apertures. All the new cameras have five-axis image stabilization and record to dual internal SD cards.
Inon ships Straight Viewfinder II
Inon is shipping version 2 of their Straight Viewfinder Unit. Specifically designed for full frame SLRs, it is available in a version for Inon X-2 housings or without an adaptor to allow it to be used with other housings. All available is an optional diopter for photographers suffering from long sightedness.

The Hippocampus Brief by Nicholas Samaras
Underwater photographer Nicholas Samaras shares a moving and beautifully illustrated story about the resilience of seahorses. Stratoni, a bay in the Aegean Sea was a known habitat for seahorses before it suffered from environmental collapse due to overfishing and habitat destruction. Nicholas’s story described the return of the iconic creature to this denuded habitat and the hope for the future that this provides.
Nauticam ships housing for Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera II
Nauticam is shipping their housing for the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. The housing has a battery pack that can be used with 4 18650 Lithium Batteries and a space that can accommodate a 5 SSD which connects to the camera via USB-C. It has 3 M16 ports, a cheese plate and utilizes Nauticam’s N85 port system. UPDATE: NA-BMPCC ships with M28 port for HDMI pass-through.
Canon registers patent for EOS R fisheye zoom lens
Canon Rumors has discovered that Canon has registered a patent with the US Patent and Trademark Office for an 8-15mm RF fisheye zoom lens for R series EOS mirrorless cameras. It seems the patent is for a lens that is suitable for use with APS-C and full-frame cameras, with a back focus that it is shorter than the EF’s 44 mm.

Underwater photographers from around the globe submitted their amazing images to the 2019 DEEP Indonesia contest. The judges had a tough time selecting their shortlists and ultimately, the winners. With this in mind, congratulations are definitely due to Grant Thomas for his very beautiful winning over-under image from Papua New Guinea and to all of those that are among the placings.
Hugyfot releases Vision monitor
Hugyfot is shipping their stand-alone 7” Vision monitor. Capable of receiving HDMI input; the monitor is powered by a Li-ION battery with a life of 8 hours. It is rated to 200 m (660 feet) and is shipped with a removable sun shade.
