IWC and CMS Launch Online Whale Watching Handbook
The International Whaling Commission and the Convention for Migratory Species have created an online handbook that aims to equip anyone who wants to go whale watching with guidance about places to go and questions to ask [potential operators. It currently has over 100 pages of searchable, cross-indexed online content.
Final Call for Entries: World Shootout 2018
The World Shootout is making a final call for entries. It is offering prizes in 10 categories. Entries must have been captured between 2 November 2017 and 1 November 2018. The deadline for entries is 1 November 2018.
WPOTY 2019 is open for entries
The 2019 Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest is now open for entries. Adult categories are Animals in their Environment, Animal Portraits, Plants and Fungi, Under Water, Urban Wildlife, Earth’s Environments, Black and White, Creative Visions, Wildlife Photojournalism, and Wildlife Photojournalist Photo Story Award. There are also 4 behavior categories: Amphibians and Reptiles, Birds, Invertebrates and Mammals.
Ikelite announces housing for the Nikon Z7 mirrorless camera
Ikelite has announced their 200DL housing for the Nikon Z7 mirrorless camera. Constructed of ABS-PC, the housing has Ikelite’s DL port system and is shipped with a vacuum valve and an M16 accessory port. Lens port compatibility is to be announced, although it is anticipated that it will allow for both Z mount and F mount lenses (with the FTZ Adapter.)
Spot A Shark USA
Underwater image maker Tanya Houppermans has shared an article about a new citizen science project that aims to use images of sharks to assists scientists to study sand tiger sharks (Carcharias taurus). The site allows photographers to load images and then they can be tracked via subsequent images of the animal.
Adobe releases Creative Cloud 2019
Adobe has released significant updates to many of its Creative Cloud apps, including Lightroom CC, Lightroom Classic, Photoshop CC and Premiere Pro CC. The company has also released Adobe Rush, a cross-device video editing app that sync edits on multiple devices via the cloud.

Michael Patrick O’Neill has won the Under Water Category of the 2018 Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition. Announced at a gala dinner at London’s Natural History Museum, his superb image of a flying fish shot with a slow shutter speed giving it a stunning motion blur.
Controversy swirls around aquarium collecting fish from Blue Heron Bridge
The Blue Heron Bridge dive site in South Florida is a well loved dive site for divers and underwater photographers alike due to its numerous species and shallow depths. However, it is also a constant target of hobbyist and professional tropical fish collectors - sometimes illegally, but often legally. The issue bubbled to the surface this weekend when a Galveston, Texas-based aquarium, Moody Gardens, employed three professional tropical fish collectors to remove dozens of species from the famous dive site.
