Aquatica has announced (PDF) their housing for the Sony a7r Mark III. It features spring loaded and set centering controls, along with an AF-ON butting that can be accessed while the user also releases the shutter. There is a new method of using the camera’s joystick and strobe triggering options include Nikonos, Ikelite or optical connections.
California State Parks debuts first underwater trail
California’s first underwater trail opens to the public on October 1st in Lake Tahoe. The underwater trail consists of four dive sites comprised of several historic small watercraft. California State Parks and the Sierra State Parks Foundation established the underwater trails. “This collection is the largest, most diverse group of sunken small watercraft of its kind, in their original location, known to exist in the nation.”
Panasonic announces two full frame mirrorless cameras
Panasonic has announced that it has developed 2 full frame mirrorless cameras: the 47MP S1R and the 24MP S1. Both cameras will be capable of 4K 60p video, feature Dual I.S. image stabilization systems, Leica L lens mounts and two memory card slots (1 XQD and 1 SD). Panasonic has also announced plans for 10 new full frame lenses.
ikelite updates fiber optic converter
Ikelite has announced the third generation of their fiber optic converter for DS strobes. In common with the preceding version, this converts the electrical bulkhead of any Ikelite DS strobe into a fiber optic port and is extra sensitive for use with internal LED triggers
Irix announces 150mm macro lens
Irix has announced that they will be producing a manual focus 150mm f/2.8 macro lens. It offers a 1:1 magnification ratio at 0.345 m (0.92 ft) and a maximum aperture of f/32. It will be available with Nikon F, Canon EF, and Pentax K mounts and is constructed with 12 elements in 9 groups, and an 11 bladed aperture diaphragm.

Maldivian police destroy Jason deCaires Taylor sculpture
Jason deCaires Taylor’s “Sculpture Coralarium” has been destroyed by police in the Maldives. The semi-submergerd structure and sculptures was destroyed using pick axes, ropes, and saws in front of the Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi resort on Friday of this past week. The move came after a civil court ordered the destruction of the artwork. Former president Abdulla Yameen, who did not win re-election this weekend, ordered the removal in July.
Basking sharks recorded breaching off the coast of Ireland
Basking sharks have been recorded breaching off the coast of Ireland. Scientists used a monitoring device secured to a 25 foot basking shark that recorded a breaching event after three hours. Additionally, the team recorded 20 breaches from basking sharks while being filmed from shore. Although the team was able to record breaching events as well as estimate speeds during the events, the question of why basking sharks breach is still unanswered.
