Nikon formally announces full frame mirrorless camera
Nikon has formally announced that it will be releasing a full frame mirrorless camera featuring a new mount system and new lenses to suit. There will also be an adaptor to allow the use of F-Mount lenses with the new camera.
Mike Bartick: Effective Snooting
It wasn’t too long ago when Keri Wilk swept the competitions with his stunning macro images created with a snoot. At a time when only a handful of people even knew what a snoot was, he produced some show stopping images that were as ahead of the curve then, as they are today. Very few tools can actually add a new layer to your portfolio as effectively as a snoot can, they are relatively inexpensive, hard to break, and travel quite easily. In fact, buying a snoot should be thought of along the lines as a lens buy as they will add that much of a new dimension to your portfolio and skills.

Video: Phase Detection Autofocus explained
ZY Productions has posted a video on YouTube explaining how phase detection autofocus (AF) works. Phase detection is only available in SLR cameras, as it requires a dedicated AF sensor and a translucent section of the camera’s mirror, which are both components you will not find in a mirrorless camera. AF is a key camera function in challenging underwater photographic environments.
Florida holds public meetings about short based shark angling
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has announced that they are revising the regulations governing land based shark angling in the state. The goal is to restrict “cruel and unnecessary” handling practices that causes fatalities among protected shark species even when they are released. There is a series on public workshops about the issue and comments can also be submitted online.
The Shark Trust endorses shark aquarium project
UK based shark conservation charity The Shark Trust has partnered with TV celebrity Bear Grylls to promote an aquarium project that plans to offer captive “shark experiences” with black tip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus) in tanks near Birmingham, UK.

New origami robot made for collecting delicate deep sea creatures
A new collection robot has been developed by Harvard University’s Wyss Institute, John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), and Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. The new robot is a solution to collecting “squishy” and delicate deep sea organisms. The 3-D printed polyhedron folds into a hollow dodecahedron and is known as a Rotary Actuated Dodecahedron (RAD).
