RIP Dan Auber
Professional and underwater photographer Dan Auber died at his Oceanside home last Thursday. Well known among the Californian underwater photography scene, Dan had a photographic career spanning over 40 years. The Wetpixel community send its sincere condolences to his family and friends.
RIP Art Haseltine
It is with great sadness that we announce that underwater photographer, marine biologist, swimmer, fine art photographer and champion of the marine world, Art Haseltine, has died unexpectedly after contracting pneumonia. Our thoughts go out to Art’s family and friends.
Seacam announces Silver D850 housing
Seacam has released their housing for the Nikon D850. It features 5 M16 ports for strobe triggering or accessories, compatibility with Seacam’s magnifying viewfinders and their unique combined lever for accessing ISO and AF ON the left thumb.
Issue 101 of Underwater Photography magazine is available
The March/April edition of Underwater Photography (UwP) magazine is now available to download. Issue 101 presents the winners of the Underwater Photographe rod the Year contest and has product reviews of the Nikon D850, Weefine 1000 & 3000 Ring Lights and the Paralenz camera. Marine life is discussed in an article about ghost pipefish and Joseph Litt’s book Galápagos is reviewed.

Results: DEEP Indonesia 2018
Wetpixel and DivePhotoGuide are proud to announce the results of the 2018 DEEP Indonesia imaging contest. The field was incredibly strong and the most hearty congratulations are due to Yung-Sen Wu for his stunning image of a blue ring octopus (Hapalochlaena lunulata) with eggs. Further congratulations to all of the among the placings, especially to the many members of the Wetpixel community.
Malibu bans restaurants from using plastic straws and cutlery
The affluent, celebrity studded, seaside town of Malibu recently voted to ban plastic straws, stirrers, and cutlery. The ban goes into effect on June 1st when the 65 restaurants will have to cease using the single use plastic items. Malibu was an early adopter of a plastic bag ban, voting in 2008 to stop using them in stores. 500 million plastic straws are thrown away every day across the country, all of which cannot be decomposed.
Ikelite announces housing for Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III
Ikelite has released details of their housing for the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III mirrorless camera. It offers TTL flash exposure control (with Ikelite strobes) and both shutter release and AEL/AFL controls have curved ergonomic levers. The housing is constructed of Ikelite’s signature white ABS-PC and utilises their DLM port system.
