Canon announces two new cameras
Canon has announced two new cameras. The EOS Rebel T7 (EOS 2000D in Europe) SLR camera has a 24.1 MP sensor, 9 AF points, a native ISO range of 100-6400 and HD video at 1920 x 1080 (30, 25, 24 fps). The EOS M50 is a mirrorless camera with a 24.1 MP APS-C sensor. It also features dual pixel AF and 4K video.
A glowing plankton bloom in Big Sur, California
From early January and into February, the waves of Big Sur have been emanating a dim, blue glow. Most divers are familiar with the phenomenon of bioluminescence, however, conditions have to be just right to see it in Big Sur and especially to be able to capture it in a photograph. However, several photographers have been capturing the bloom of glowing dinoflagellates, which are a result of high nutrient levels in the water and a high pressure system preventing the typical winter storms from “stirring up” the waters.
Color Range Masking on Lightroom Coffee Break
Adobe’s Benjamin Ward in in his mini tutorial in the Lightroom Coffee break discusses how to “Make Precise Selections with Color Range Masking.” Color range Masking was one of the new features added to Lightroom Classic CC earlier this year.
Subal announces special edition of ND850 housing
Subal has released a limited edition version of their housing for the Nikon D850 to celebrate Nikon’s centenary. The ND850LE housing features a special yellow color with black aluminum control dials, and only 30 units will be produced.
The Seychelles has announced two new Marine Protected Areas
On February 21, 2018, the Seychelles announced the designation of two new Marine Protected Areas, covering an area of roughly 81,000 square miles. The first MPA covers 29,000 square miles around the Aldabra island group which is home to the dugong (the most endangered animal in the Western Indian Ocean) as well as about 100,000 giant tortoises. The second MPA covers the deep waters between the Amirantes Group and Fortune Bank, an area important to tourism and local fishing.
Series 2 dome diffusers available from CM diffusers
CM diffusers has announced the release of their Series II dome diffusers. The version for the Sea&Sea YD-D1/2 has been completely redesigned. All wide angle models are now being constructed of a new frosted material for enhanced light transmission and improved fall off from center to edge. CM diffusers are available for Inon Z24O, Sea&Sea YS-D1/YS-D2/YS-120/YS-250, Ikelite DS160/DS161/DS125 and Seacam Seaflash 150.
Strobe tests: Inon Z330, Retra Flash and Symbiosis SS2
Wetpixel offers the long awaited and definitive test of the Inon Z330, Retra Flash and Symbiosis SS2 strobes. Carried out over the past 6 weeks in the UK and in Egypt’s Red Sea, each strobe has been cycled several thousand times and used in as wide a variety of situations as possible. Inevitably, there will be some questions that remain unanswered so ,to discuss the results and the strobes further, check out the thread in the Wetpixel forum.
Results: Our World Underwater 2018
