Panasonic announces the Lumix GH5S
At the CES Show in Las Vegas, Panasonic has announced the Lumix GH5S mirrorless camera. It offers internal recording of 4:2:0 Cinema 4K at 60fps along with 4:2:2 Cinema 4K at 30fps. It also offers Variable Frame Rate recording. It features a 10.2MP multi aspect sensor with a native ISO up to 51,200 and 14 bit RAW still images.
ROV footage of amazing deep water jellyfish
The team on the expedition vessel Nautilus has posted some amazing video of a Halitrephes maasi jellyfish. It was filmed by ROV at a depth of 1225m (4019 ft) in the Revillagigedo Archipelago off Baja California, Mexico.
Lightroom and Photoshop tutorials available from Erin Quigley
Lightroom and Photoshop guru Erin Quigley runs excellent training sessions specifically aimed at underwater photographers. In conjunction with this, she has published a series of free tutorials and these are all now available via a single landing page on her website. There is a mixture of lessons for Lightroom and Photoshop and there are techniques suitable for both beginner and advanced users.
Blue Planet II premieres in US on January 20th
After a long wait, the BBC series Planet Earth: Blue Planet II will make it to broadcast television in the United States on January 20th. The series is scheduled to air on BBC America. The BBC America website also has a channel finder to locate BBC America on your local cable provider.
Guide: Updating copyright information for 2018
Wetpixel offers a guide for photographers dealing with how to update their workflow and equipment to allow for the 2018 year change. This includes updating metadata and watermark templates in Lightroom and a reminder to check camera and equipment settings.
Subal restructures
Over the past few days, there are reports surfacing that Austrian housing manufacturer Subal is experiencing some form of financial difficulty. UPDATE: Subal owner Harald Karl has responded. He has asserted that the company is restructuring and that no customers will be affected. Subal will open a new store in Vienna in March.
Issue 100 of UwP Magazine is available
The bumper issue 100 of Underwater Photography magazine (UwP) is now available to download. First published in 2001 by Peter Rowlands, the ezine continues as the single most read underwater imaging publication. Hearty congratulations to Peter and UwP on turning 100! UwP Magazine is available as a free download in pdf format.
