Gates Underwater Products has announced their SPR80 Stackable Port Ring system. It allows for complete modular support of a wide variety of lens options in a single package and is hence being marketed to on location traveling filmmakers as a light, comprehensive solution for many different lenses.
A diver’s POV of diving the GOM Dead Zone
There is a Dead Zone that has been occurring along the Texas and Louisiana coastline’s during the summer months since researchers started measuring it in 1985. This August, assistant professor Cameron Thrash carried a GoPro while he dove the dead zone 60 feet below the surface approximately 30 miles south of Cocodrie. A dead zone is where bacteria has depleted the water of oxygen and life fails to thrive.
Hurricane Irma destroys turtle nests
The University of Centra Florida reports that around a quarter of loggerhead (Caretta caretta)and half of green turtle (Chelonia mydas) nests in Florida’s Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge have been either swept away or exposed by hurricane Irma. (Image from Shutterstock.)

Alien Skin has released their Exposure X3 RAW Photo Editor. New functionality includes keyword support, collection tool, virtual copies, additional color and mono support, enhanced editing linear and radial gradient tool overlays and signature presets.
Woman rescues shark trapped in rock pool with bare hands
Melissa Hatheier, an Australian woman who frequently swims the rock pools next to the ocean in Cronulla, Australia, rescued a 3-foot long shark that had found itself trapped in the pool. Hatheier spotted the shark and then called her daughter to come see it for herself. Once her daughter arrived, and started filming with her phone, Hatheier corralled the shark, scooped it up and threw it back into its ocean home. They are not sure whether the shark was a Port Jackson or a Wobbegong shark. They are also surprised by all the attention. Prior to the impromptu rescue they called the emergency number for expert help.
Cayman’s Kittiwake toppled onto port side after tropical storm Nate
The USS Kittiwake, one of Cayman’s most popular dive sites, has been toppled onto its port side following the onslaught of tropical storm Nate. Eyewitnesses that dove the site on sunday report that the decommissioned ship is resting along the reef and appears to have impacted the dive site known as San Chute more than once. The artificial reef was sunk in 2011 at a depth of 64-feet, but now appears to be sitting 20-feet deeper.
Wetpixel review: Loupedeck Photo Editing Console for Lightroom Part 2
Wetpixel Editor Adam Hanlon also presents a review of the Loupedeck photo editing console for Adobe Lightroom. He has used it to process a large number of images taken during the Wetpixel Whale Sharks trip as well as for processing images from two other large shoots. He found that the device made image editing more visual, which helped the creative process.
