Sony a6300 not recommended for broadcast video
The Sony a6300 has elicited a lot of excitement for its advanced video specifications. These include Super 35 sensor, internal 4K recording, HD recording at 50mbps and S-Log 2 and 3 gammas. Newshooter have submitted the diminutive camera to EBU tester Alan Roberts to see if it would stack up as a broadcast option. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the results were disappointing and the camera cannot be recommended for producing broadcast quality footage.

Thai Dive Sites Closed
Thai PBS reports that 32 dive sites in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea have been closed to divers “to allow officials to check the sea temperatures for fear that sea warming may lead to coral bleaching”. Temperatures of 29.2°C (84.56°F) and 31°C (86°F) have been recorded at depths of 1.3m (4ft), which is significantly higher than normal. (Image from Shutterstock.
New app: Hedge for Mac
Hedge for Mac is a new app that is designed to import data from still or video cameras. It can import multiple streams simultaneously and automatically verifies copies to ensure that they are all bit for bit perfect. It is available as a free version that limits the user to two simultaneous streams or a subscription based version that gives an unlimited number of streams.
Inon announces Color Filter Set for GoPro
Inon has announced the release of their color filter set for GoPro housings. The set includes three different filters that are designed for the GoPro HERO4, HERO 3+ and the HERO 3. The filters are designated for green water, shallow water and deep water and are inserted within the GoPro’s housing, allowing the use of correction lenses.
A plan to save corals in a warming ocean
Two scientists are looking at ways to save the worlds coral reefs, but in a very controversial way, by speeding up evolution. The two scientists, Ruth Gates and Madeleine van Oppen of the Australian Institute of Marine Sciences, have decided to focus on the corals that do not eject their zooxanthellae during a bleaching event in an effort to make the reefs more resilient to rising sea temperatures.
Google offers Nik Collection plug-ins for free
Google has announced that from today, its Nik Collection of desktop image processing plug-ins is now available to download for free. It was previously a paid-for product. The suite consists of Analog Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro, Silver Efex Pro, Viveza, HDR Efex Pro, Sharpener Pro and Dfine. If you have purchased the Nik Collection in 2016, Google will process a full refund in due course.
Results of DEEP Indonesia 2016 announced
Wetpixel and DPG are proud to announce the stunning winners of the 2016 DEEP Indonesia Contest. Congratulation to Mathieu Foulquié for his mating toad image that won Best of Show and to all the other finalists. The competition attracted a large number of contestants from around the globe with a universally very high calibre which made choosing the winning images very difficult.
