Tutorials available for Photoshop 2015.1 release
Adobe Creative Cloud subscribers that update their copies of Photoshop to the new 2015.1 version released today will notice a significant change in how the app looks. By default, it now opens with a new start workspace. In addition, opening a new file will now open the recent files workspace. 2015.1 also offers the option of customizing the toolbar by removing tools (and their shortcuts) that are used infrequently.
Bird’s Head Seascape posts Natural History Notes
The Bird’s Head Seascape has posted the first of a series of Natural History Notes. Written by Dr. Richard Smith, the post discusses damselfish (Pomacentridae). He notes :”Around two hundred and fifty species, three quarters of the world’s damsels, are known to live in the Indo-West Pacific.”
Phase One releases Capture One Pro 9
Phase One is now shipping version 9 of their Capture One Pro raw converter and image editing software. New features in this iteration include a revised contrast engine, the ability to apply curves locally and the addition of a luma option to the curve tool palette. In terms of asset management, there are now new keyword tools, keyword libraries and keywords are sortable.
Japan to resume Southern Ocean whaling
The Japanese government has announced that it plans to resume whaling in the Southern Ocean this year. This is in direct contravention of a ruling from the International Court of Justice. Racing Extinction goes to air on 2 December
Louie Psihoyos’s and Wetpixel Moderator Shawn Heinrichs’s latest film “Racing Extinction” will be aired on Discovery on 2 December at 9PM PT in more than 220 countries. Psihoyos describes the film as: “The biggest story in the world and claims the reasons for what is happening are multi-faceted; carbon emissions, climate change, overfishing, illegal wildlife trade, habitat destruction and overconsumption are the overwhelming problems.”
Panasonic releases “Post-Focus” firmware
Panasonic has released a firmware update that will allow GX8, G7 and FZ300 users to change the focus point post capture. Essentially, once selected, post focus shoots video at 4K with a variety of focus points that can be selected and images with different focus points saved.
Borneo From Below: Cuttlefish
Episode 17 of Borneo from Below is now online. This week’s episode is titled, “Cuttlefish: Colourful, Camouflaged & Charismatic!” and features the different cuttlefish species that inhabit the waters surrounding Borneo.
New paper tracks humpback movements
A new study, published in the Royal Society Open Science journal has used satellite tracking tags to study the novel migratory patterns of endangered South Pacific humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae).
