Oceanography for Everyone community launches
Oceanography for Everyone is designed to create a community for the sharing open-source hardware and tools for monitoring and understanding the marine environment. Within each project, there are “resources, build guides, 3-D printer codes, code repositories, and, eventually, databases”. The site is working closely with the OpenROV project to create tools that can be deployed from or by the ROV.
Mustard and Edge to present at Dive 2015
The Dive Show 2015 is being held at the National Exhibition Center, Birmingham, Uk on 24 and 25 October. Apart from the stands displaying and selling of underwater imaging related equipment, the show also features a number of lectures and seminars. Wetpixel Associate Editor Alex Mustard and co-host Martin Edge will be presenting their talk: “CAMERA SETTINGS IN THE SEA”. Wetpixel will be there and are reporting “live” from the show.
Three Sisters Spring rules unchanged
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has announced that the existing regulations for viewing, filming and photographing manatees in Three Sisters Spring will stay in force for the coming season.
Lightroom update: Adobe to restore import dialog
Responding to a large number of complaints, Adobe has announced that it will offer the legacy import workflow in its next release of Lightroom. The same post also lists the steps needed to roll the 2015.2/6.2 update back. Another option is to use Photo mechanic to quickly import images.
FAA issues rules on lithium battery carriage
New guidelines for the transportation of lithium batteries by airlines have been issued. On 8 October, The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a notice effectively prohibiting the carriage of “spare” Lithium batteries in checked baggage. Collectors editions of Camera Man by Chuck Nicklin available
Camera Man, the autobiography of underwater photographer and filmmaker Chuck Nicklin is being formally released at the DEMA show on 4 November. The book chronicles Chuck’s career working alongside some of the most famous names in underwater imaging. Hardcover signed and numbered collectors editions are available now direct from the author.
Breaching great white shark filmed from Alcatraz ferry boat
This past weekend in San Francisco, visitors to Alcatraz island were treated to front row seats of a great white shark breach and seal attack. The shark rocketed out of the water with a seal in its mouth just feet from the Alcatraz ferry dock where visitors were loading up the boat to ride back to San Francisco.
Battle for Big Blue app by Pharrell Williams released
In conjunction with RAW for the oceans, a denim clothing line that uses ocean plastic, Pharrell Williams has released his first video game app titled Battle for Big Blue. The app is free and the goal is to drive home the point that we need to work on keeping plastic out of our oceans.
