GoPro to launch mobile editing app
TechCrunch reports that GoPro is planning to release a mobile video editing app to complement its cameras. This will allow users to perform edits and share content on their phones straight after capture.
National Geographic provide advice about success on Instagram
National Geographic has posted part 1 of an article entitled “So You Want to be Successful on Instagram” on its Voices blog. The post asserts that Instagram has “become the social network for visual people” and emphasizes how crucial it is for photographers to get their work on it. Equally, the author Kike Calvo also recognizes the difficulty in getting images seen given the sheer volume of postings.

Video: Phi-Phi Marine Reserve in 4K
Earth Touch’s Wild Oceans channel features 4K footage from the Phi-Phi National Marine Reserve, Andaman Sea, Thailand. The episode features scribbled filefish feeding on animals that are living within the tentacles of a large jellyfish, large schools of bigeye snappers and an interesting symbiotic relationship between a wrasse and a blackspotted pufferfish.
A shiver of 50 basking sharks off Big Sur
On thursday of this past week, squid fisherman Kevin Reynolds witnessed a shiver of basking sharks off the coast of Big Sur. Before basking sharks were hunted to near extinction for their liver oil, large schools of them, or shivers, were common off the coast of Monterey. Reynolds estimates he saw 50 basking sharks at one time.
Another rare white humpback whale spotted off Ireland
The sighting of an all white Humpback Whale off the coast of Baltimore in West Cork, Ireland has been causing quite the stir. Pat Collins and Gerard Minihane were out fishing when they spotted the albino Humpback Whale. Currently, there are only two other known albino humpback whales in the world, Migaloo of Australia and one that frequents the waters surrounding Norway.

Z Camera has launched their E1 Micro 4/3s 4K camera. Compatible with all Micro 4/3s lenses, it is capable of cinema quality 4K (4096x2160) video at 24 frames per second or ultra-high definition (3840x2160) at 30 frames per second and can shoot at ISO6400, whilst maintaining high image quality.
3D scanning reefs to save them
Sly Lee is the founder of The Hydrous, a nonprofit that 3-D scans coral reefs. The Hydrous uses Autodesk software that takes 200,000 or more of coral reefs and turns them into 3-D models. These 3-D models can be compared to those made years from now of the same reef to study changes.
