Apple updates Digital Camera RAW
Apple has released an update to increase its Camera RAW compatibility in OS X. Version 3.9 adds support for: Canon PowerShot S100, Nikon 1 J1, Nikon 1 V1, Nikon COOLPIX P7100, Olympus PEN E-PL1s, Olympus PEN E-PL3, Olympus PEN E-PM1, Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ150, Sony Alpha NEX-5N, Sony Alpha SLT-A65 and Sony Alpha SLT-A77 cameras.
Apple has published a full list of supported image formats on its website. The updates is also available on the Apple support site or via Software Update.
Call for entries: SEA 2011 International Photo & Video Competition
The Northern California Underwater Photographic Society (NCUPS) has announced that the International Underwater Photo & Video Competition and the Bob Commer Award of Excellence in Underwater Photography is accepting entries. Contest categories for stills include: Wide-angle, underwater California, marine conservation and creative. There are two video categories: Classic and video snapshots.
Full competition details, rules and procedures for entering are available on the NCUPS website, and the deadline is 9 December.
Sport Diver Magazine re-launches Images feature
Sport Diver Magazine has relaunched its Images feature on underwater photography as part of a magazine wide re-design. The column will be written by different photographers each issue, with Wetpixel’s Associate Editor Alex Mustard kicking things off with an article on photographing behavior.
The aim is for each article to provide useful tips for photographers of all levels.
Subtronic releases TTL convertor cable
In a post on Facebook, Subtronic has announced the release of a TTL convertor cable for Nikon and Canon cameras with Pro160 and Pro270 strobes. The company had previously offered the Intellisync Cable which uses a Heinrichs Weikamp TTL circuit integrated into the flash cable. The new model has a second strobe connection built-in, allowing two strobes to be directly connected, rather than with a splitter.
Prices and availability are to be announced.
Ocean Magic Productions releases Lightroom 3 DVD
Ocean Magic Productions has released a new DVD entitled “Lightroom 3 for the Underwater Photographer.” The new DVD features over 10 hours of tutorials covering Lightroom’s entire workflow and is a companion volume to the previous “Photoshop for the Underwater Photographer” DVD released some time ago.
Doug and Lorenza Sloss of Ocean Magic Productions say that:
“This DVD will make your experience with Lightroom enjoyable and will teach you quick and efficient strategies so you spend less time at the computer and more time underwater taking pictures.”
Nikon updates D7000 and D5100 firmware
Nikon has announced upgrades for the firmware on the D7000 and D5100 SLRs. In the case of the D7000, this updates the “B” firmware to version 1.03, and fixes some bugs. The “B” software is responsible for image processing, while the “A” is for camera control, and in this update remains unchanged. The D5100 firmware becomes version 1.01 and again fixes some camera bugs.
The updates are available via the Nikon support site.
Adobe releases Lightroom 3.6 and Camera RAW 6.6 betas
Release candidate versions of Lightroom 3.6 and Camera Raw 6.6 are now available on Adobe Labs. These add additional camera support for Canon PowerShot S100, Nikon 1 J1, Nikon 1 V1, Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1 and Samsung NX5 as well as a variety of lenses. It also fixes a series of bugs that are present in the current versions.
Release candidates are versions of the software that are stable, but need more user testing. The downloads are available from Adobe Labs.
Alert Diver fall edition published
The fall edition of DAN’s Alert Diver was out in time for DEMA and should be reaching DAN US members soon. This edition features articles by Stephen Frink on Alaska, the Bird’s Head Seascape by Burt Jones and Maureen Shimlock, Flying Fish by Ned and Anna DeLoach and a photographic profile and interview of Flip Nicklin. Lastly, David Hall shows how he found inspiration “Beneath Cold Seas.”
Alert Diver is published quarterly and is a member benefit for DAN US members.
