Book release: The World Beneath by Richard Smith
Wetpixel member, marine biologist, and underwater photographer, Dr. Richard Smith will be publishing his first book “The World Beneath” in September. It has 320 pages with 333 images, and “shows the striking colors of the sea creatures, and gives a rare up-close view of their world.”

Sony announces A7R Mark IV
Sony has announced the 35mm 61MP Alpha 7R mark IV full-frame mirrorless camera. It 567 focal-plane phase-detection and 425 contrast AF points and a claimed 15 stop dynamic range. 4K video recording with no pixel binning and continuous Real-Time eye auto AF. Lastly, it offers 5-axis, optical in-body image stabilization.
Results: Digital Shootout 2019
Backscatter Photo and Video recently held their annual Digital Shootout at Little Cayman Beach Resort. It attracted 70 participants and 20 staff who had the opportunity to discuss photography gear, shooting techniques and best editing practices with each other and the instructional team. An important part of the Digital shootout is the end-of-event photo and video contest. Congratulations to all the participants and to the winners.
Inon ships Quick Mount brackets
Inon is shipping a new range of Quick Holders and a Rotatable YS Extension Bar. The former allows the mounting of compatible Inon lights and strobes onto a YS mount via a quick-release bracket. The rotating extension gives a 360° swivel mount to accessories.
Microsoft releases Raw Image Extension
Microsoft has released a RAW image extension that allows users to view most Raw image files natively within Windows apps like File Explorer and the Photos app. The extension requires the Windows 10 May 2019 Update.
Field Review: ONEUW 160X Strobe by Alex Mustard
After extensive testing in the Egyptian Red Sea, Wetpixel Associate Editor Alex Mustard shares his thoughts on the ONEUW 160X strobes.
