Ocean Magic Productions releases Lightroom 3 DVD

Ocean Magic Productions has released a new DVD entitled “Lightroom 3 for the Underwater Photographer.” The new DVD features over 10 hours of tutorials covering Lightroom’s entire workflow and is a companion volume to the previous “Photoshop for the Underwater Photographer” DVD released some time ago.

Doug and Lorenza Sloss of Ocean Magic Productions say that:

“This DVD will make your experience with Lightroom enjoyable and will teach you quick and efficient strategies so you spend less time at the computer and more time underwater taking pictures.”

Nikon updates D7000 and D5100 firmware Photo

Nikon updates D7000 and D5100 firmware

Nikon has announced upgrades for the firmware on the D7000 and D5100 SLRs. In the case of the D7000, this updates the “B” firmware to version 1.03, and fixes some bugs. The “B” software is responsible for image processing, while the “A” is for camera control, and in this update remains unchanged. The D5100 firmware becomes version 1.01 and again fixes some camera bugs.

The updates are available via the Nikon support site.

Adobe releases Lightroom 3.6 and Camera RAW 6.6 betas

Release candidate versions of Lightroom 3.6 and Camera Raw 6.6 are now available on Adobe Labs. These add additional camera support for Canon PowerShot S100, Nikon 1 J1, Nikon 1 V1, Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1 and Samsung NX5 as well as a variety of lenses. It also fixes a series of bugs that are present in the current versions.

Release candidates are versions of the software that are stable, but need more user testing. The downloads are available from Adobe Labs.

Alert Diver fall edition published

The fall edition of DAN’s Alert Diver was out in time for DEMA and should be reaching DAN US members soon. This edition features articles by Stephen Frink on Alaska, the Bird’s Head Seascape by Burt Jones and Maureen Shimlock, Flying Fish by Ned and Anna DeLoach and a photographic profile and interview of Flip Nicklin. Lastly, David Hall shows how he found inspiration “Beneath Cold Seas.”

Alert Diver is published quarterly and is a member benefit for DAN US members.

DEMA 2011: Conclusion and overview

Two final installments for Wetpixel’s coverage of DEMA 2011. The show is so much more than an equipment convention in its simplest sense. The purpose of the show is undoubtedly to allow manufacturers and distributors to get their products out into the public domain, but a very important side-effect of this is that it gathers together all the major players under “one roof”. This really opens up channels of communication within the industry, which we as observers, get to view and comment on. The final pages are a video slide show about the “people of DEMA” and some concluding thoughts about trends and innovations for 2011.

Aquatica releases OLED monitor

Aquatica was showing a new high-definition monitor at DEMA, and has just sent us more specifications for the unit. It is an OLED crystal unit, which gives superior brightness and contrast over traditional LCD type monitors and is housed in an aluminum housing with Amphibico closure.

It is compatible with both Aquatica and Amphibico housings that have a video output and will retail at $1399.

Panasonic announces LUMIX GX1 EVIL camera

Panasonic has announced the release of the GX1 EVIL camera. It features a 16.01 megapixel sensor, which is apparently the same as of that on the Panasonic G3 SLR, Venus processing engine, maximum ISO of 12800 and Contrast AF system. The camera has an AF Flexible focus mode which will track the subject and keep it in focus if it moves whilst the shutter is half depressed. It also has HD video at 1080 60i (with a sensor output of 30p) in an AVCHD codec.

The camera is compatible with all current LUMIX/Four Thirds System lenses and will be available from mid-December. It will be priced at $699.99 for a body only.

Results announced of the European Wildlife Photographer contest Photo

Results announced of the European Wildlife Photographer contest

The results of the European Wildlife Photographer have been released and first place in the Underwater category was taken by Magnus Lundgren with an image of a sailfish striking a group of sardines. The results were announced at the International Nature Photography Exhibition at Lunen. Magnus also placed second in the Mammals category with a sperm whale image.

DEMA show 2011: Coverage

Wetpixel’s coverage of the annual DEMA show is underway. DEMA is the world’s largest trade-only dive exhibition and is the place that the majority of manufacturers release and demo their new products. For 2011, it is being held in Orlando, Florida from 2 to 5 November. Wetpixel as always will be providing full coverage of the event with updates being added here daily. Gates shows new housing for Canon EOS C300

At the Wetpixel/DivePhotoGuide party at DEMA in Orlando last night, John Ellerbrock of Gates Underwater Products produced renderings of the new Gates housing for the Canon EOS C300 digital cinema camera. The actual prototype of the housing was on display at the Canon release event at Paramount Studios.

The EOS C300 is expected to become a competitor to the RED family of cameras. Gates currently offers the DEEP Epic for the RED Epic camera and DEEP Red for the RED One.
