Winner of 2012 Raja Ampat Entrance Tag Competition announced

Many congratulations to Cornelia Thieme of Gelnhausen, Germany for her winning entry in the Wetpixel 2012 Raja Ampat Entrance Tag Competition. Her graphic consists, at first glance, of a motif of two seahorses but on closer inspection also contains numerous other marine icons, including mantas, whale sharks and nautilus. Cornelia wins a holiday to Raja Ampat, and her tag will be displayed on all visiting divers’ BCDs next year.

On behalf of the judges, I would like to stress how high the caliber of the entries was this year and what a tough job it was to create a shortlist for the final 10. Congratulations are due not only to the winner, but to all those who produced such fantastic designs.

Studies of satellite imagery shows that the summer extent of the sea ice has retreated 50 per cent since 1972. This has profound and disturbing consequences for Arctic fauna.
