Freediver and performer Guillaume Néry has released his latest short film. Entitled One Breath Around The World it documents his project of the same name. He describes it: “It is a kind of a freediving World Tour that brings them to discover exceptional sites of our blue planet and meet people or animals as exceptional.”
Peta Pixel has published Daan Verhoeven’s underwater portrait series of people plunging into 4°C water. The tank of water was at the free diving world championships in Turku, Finland. He was able to set up in the tank and captured the moment of shock on the competitors faces as they submerged into the icy cold water.
New Zealand freediver William Trubridge has broken the 102 meter world record that he held from 2010 in the Bahamas. The dive took 4 minutes and 14 seconds of sinking to 102 meters and then swimming back up with no fins. The world record dive took place in Dean’s Blue Hole in the Bahamas.
Free diver William Trubridge broke the world record in free immersion this past Saturday by diving to a depth of 122 meters, and then promptly broke it again on Monday by adding two more meters to his record. The world record dive of 124 meters (approximately 407 feet deep) was made at the annual Vertical Blue free diving competition in Dean’s Blue Hole in the Bahamas. The previous world record was made in 2011 by Trubridge as well.
Mark Harris has authored a book specifically aimed at capturing images underwater while freediving. Glass and Water covers both using and adapting both freediving and photographic equipment, techniques specific to breath hold photography and a series of images created by eminent photographers. The last section includes the author’s “Virtual Dive” which “pulls together everything covered in the book”.

Guillaume Néry & Julie Gautier have released a new freediving short film. Entitled “Ocean Gravity” it explores the weightlessness of being underwater: “Just like in the space, there isn’t anymore a top or a bottom. There isn’t anymore upside down and wrong side out. The ocean becomes cosmos, the man a satellite, and the bottom of the sea an unknown planet. Welcome in the fascinating universe of Ocean Gravity.”

One ocean one breath is a freediving collaboration between Eusebio and Christina Saenz de Santamaria of underwater photography. All of their imagery is shot while free diving without scuba equipment.
