Canon announces XF705 4K camcorder
Canon has announced a 4K camcorder capable of shooting 60p/4:2:2/10-bit/HDR video to on-board SD cards. The XF705 has a (35mm equivalent) 25.5 mm–382.5 mm lens, a 1.0-inch CMOS sensor and a Dual DIGIC DV 6 processor. Autofocus is via Dual Pixel CMOS AF.
The Ocean Cleanup System 001 has been launched in the San Francisco Bay
The Ocean Cleanup Project launched its first working system to the Pacific Ocean through the San Francisco Bay on September 8, 2018. The Ocean Cleanup Project is a nonprofit organization that is working on a solution to cleaning up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch using ocean currents. The organization was begun in 2013 by Boyan Slat. The Dutch based non-profit seeks to clean-up the GPGP in five years time.
PangeaSeed Sea Walls project underway in Bali
PangeaSeed Foundation has launched a Sea Walls project in Bali, Indonesia. The Sea Walls project features the work of local and international artists in stunning murals that serve to bring a voice to the oceans. The Bali edition is titled “Protect What You Love - Protect Your Island” and features the work of fifteen artists.
Think Tank Photo announces Lens Case Duo series
Think Tank Photo has announced the Lens Case Duo series of lens cases. Constructed with velocity nylon and high-density foam, the cases offer protection for lenses in transit and can be used as modular pouches on a belt, shoulder strap or gear bag. They have a zippered lid and side entry and are available in 6 sizes.
Adobe Sneak Peak: Content Aware Fill revision
Adobe has released a sneak preview of a new content aware fill workflow that will be released in a Photoshop CC update soon. A new interface allows users to choose where the content aware fill is sampled from. In addition, the fill can be added in a new layer, creating a non destructive option. Lastly, the film can be rotated, scaled or mirrored to suit a particulate image’s needs.
Last spaces: Erin Quigley Photoshop workshop in aid of Dive into the Pink
Lightroom and Photoshop guru Erin Quigley has a couple of spaces left on her Photoshop Intensive workshop coming up at her LA studio on October 12 to 14? She describes it as “three days of non-stop (almost) Photoshop fun.” All proceeds of this workshop will benefit cancer charity Dive into the Pink.
Ocean Art 2018 is calling for entries
The 2018 Ocean Art Photo competition is calling for entries. Featuring 16 categories, it offers a prize purse of trips and equipment worth over of $75,000. Category winners will be able to rank their preferred prizes. The deadline for entries is 30 November.
The Getty Family acquires Getty Images once again
The stock photo agency Getty Images is now owned, once again, by the Getty family. The stock photo agency was started in 1997 by Mark Getty and CEO Jonathan Klein. The agency was acquired in 2008 by private equity firm Hellman & Friedman. Then the company again traded hands in 2012 and was purchased by the Carlyle Group. Going full circle, the Getty family has purchased a majority stake in the company, all of Carlyle’s ownership, and “ongoing financial interest in the future growth”.
