Final round of The SHOOTOUT opens for voting
he third and final round of The SHOOTOUT, is now open for public voting. The round’s category was Wide Angle, and the teams at Lembeh Resort and Gulen Dive Resort have produced another stellar collection of images. The two teams are neck and neck, with the final result hinging on the results of this round! Please head on over to the event’s website and vote for your favorite. When you do so please, note that you only have one vote….use it wisely!
Results for the Fish and Invertebrates round of The Shootout
The Shootout 2018 kicked off on June 15th at both Lembeh Dive Resort in Indonesia and Gulen Dive Resort in Norway. The subject for the second of three rounds of photography was Fish and Invertebrates. Participants in both countries submitted their best images taken of Fish and Invertebrates during three dives and were then ranked by enthusiastic voters the world over.
Results for the first round of the Shootout
The Shootout 2018 kicked off on June 15th at both Lembeh Dive Resort in Indonesia and Gulen Dive Resort in Norway. The subject for the first of three rounds of photography was nudibranchs. Participants in both countries submitted their best images taken of nudibranchs during three dives on June 17th and were then ranked by enthusiastic voters the world over.
Live Reports: The Shootout 2018
The Shootout 2018 has kicked off in both Lembeh, Indonesia and Gulen Norway. Alex Mustard is team captain in Lembeh, while Keri Wilk is team captain in Gulen. They will each lead their teams from June 15th to June 23rd. Wetpixel editor Adam Hanlon is on hand in Norway while associate editor Abi Smigel Mullens is stationed in Lembeh, both with provide live coverage throughout the event.
Inon announces underwater tripod system
Inon has released details of their new underwater tripod system. Designed to be modular, the tripod consists of a “Tripod Hub” that can have a variety of legs, ferrules, shoe mounts or the new “UW Pan head” attached to it. The latter is a specific 3-way ballhead specifically designed differ underwater use.
Large food service company bans plastic straws at more than 1,000 locations
A large food service management company, Bon Appetit Foods, has banned plastic straws in its more than 1,000 locations across the United States. Bon Appetit runs restaurants at locations such as museums, college campuses, ball parks, and other notable places. The company announced that it had purchased 16.8 million plastic straws in 2017 alone. The company will offer compostable straws as an alternative to the plastic version. Bon Appetit hopes to fully implement the ban by 2019.

Filmmakers Howard and Michele Hall have posted a stunning short film of clips shot while diving for 2 weeks with the Atlantis resorts in Puerto Galera and Dumaguete, Phillipines. Dreams of Atlantis was captured exclusively in 8K resolution on RED.
Alex Mustard is awarded an MBE
Many congratulations to Wetpixel Associate Editor Alex Mustard who has been awarded the Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honors list for “services to underwater photography.”
